Simply put, you're better off going for narrow knots if you have a narrow and long face, and you choose a wide and/or thick knot if you have a round face or a wide neck. The widespread collar, perhaps better known as the point collar, is probably the most common collar in your wardrobe. Most shirts have this classic collar. With the widespread collar you have a little more room for your tie knot, so here you can choose a slightly wider knot. Go for a single Windsor or a Pratt knot.
With the cutaway collar, the points stand a little further apart than with a 'normal' collar. This leaves more room for a tie knot. So here you can go all out with a wide knot and a wide tie. Go for the double Windsor. This may take a little more effort, but then you're guaranteed to steal the show. Make sure your knot is tight and on point, because with this collar it's clearly visible. You obviously don't want it to look messy then.
With the kent collar, the points stand slightly outward, which makes it also very suitable for wearing without a tie. Here, choose a Four-in-hand knot, a narrow, more discreet and slightly asymmetrical knot. This knot can be worn well by everyone, but looks exceptionally good on men with a shorter neck because the knot tapers narrowly, making your neck appear a little longer.
A tie clip is the must-have for every man who regularly wears a suit. Go for a simple model for a classic look, or a more pronounced tie clip for stylish with a twist. A tie clip may be ¾ of the width of the tie. Wear your tie clip between the third and fourth button of the shirt and it stays perfectly in place.
