What are suit pants

This is a long trouser traditionally worn at business and formal occasions. A pair of dress trousers is usually part of a men's suit, together with a jacket. You recognise the trousers by, among other things, the creases down the legs, which give them a neat and professional look.

The history of dress trousers

It is not known for certain where the name comes from, but it most likely refers to Pantalone, a well-known figure from Italian street theatre: a Venetian merchant in smart clothes. The trousers as we know them originate in the hectic years of the French Revolution and have been an essential part of the male wardrobe ever since.

What do I wear dress trousers with?

The classic combination is with a shirt and possibly a tie and a waistcoat. Nowadays you can also get away with wearing them more casually, for example with a fine-knit jumper or a T-shirt and trainers. Thanks to the simplicity of the design, dress trousers suit a wide range of outfits, from formal to business casual, and there are plenty of fits, colours and patterns to match your style.
